Business case : Urban Solar Energy

Our client

Urban Solar Energy is a green electricity supplier with an innovative positioning. Their stated objective is to develop solar energy in urban areas. Therefore, their customers predominantly have self-consumption solar installations. Urban Solar Energy targets "prosumers" with innovative supply offerings such as "virtual storage.

Their need

Urban Solar Energy has experienced significant growth in its customer portfolio in recent years. However, the volatility of the markets since the end of 2021 has been challenging for a startup, especially since its DNA is quite distant from operations in the wholesale markets.

 

Urban Solar Energy had two main needs. Firstly, to better manage the forward coverage of its "prosumers," whose profile is quite unique as they are, on average, producers in the summer and consumers in the winter. Secondly, Urban Solar Energy wanted to become a balancing manager, a function it had been outsourcing until now

The Solutions of Augmented Energy

 

Augmented Energy was able to offer integrated solutions to Urban Solar Energy  for each of its two needs.

As part of its coverage management offering, Augmented Energy provided tools to forecast the net consumption of Urban Solar Energy's portfolio and calculate the optimal coverage for this portfolio. But that’s not all: Augmented Energy also assisted Urban Solar Energy in finding counterparties and defining and implementing its coverage strategy.

To effectively manage a balance perimeter, it is necessary to forecast the daily consumption of the portfolio and make transactions in the day-ahead market based on that and any previously made forward purchases. Augmented Energy's balance perimeter management offering includes all these operations. Augmented Energy handles the J-1 forecasts, the transmission of orders, any necessary nominations, and the integration of flows from Enedis. With this offering, Urban Solar Energy optimizes its new balance perimeter without needing additional IT development or hiring extra staff.

Thus, Urban Solar Energy was able to quickly establish vital processes for its supplier activities without committing excessive resources.
